- Q and A -

What drew you to the supply chain management industry?
The industry is so diverse and I enjoy being involved in the entire chain. Working with a variety of customers and their specialized product lines, other logistic companies, internal sales, finance, HR, operations and to the end customer.

What are some challenges in having two operations that are so co-dependent?
The challenge would actually be greater in NOT having the two operations integrated and dependant on one another. Combining the business services allows us to all focus on the same goals, continuous improvement opportunities are greater and there is an exceptional sense of teamwork throughout the operations.

How do we measure the performance of these two facets?
We have internal scorecards that track performance results in various categories for each operation…People, Customer Service, Finance, and Processes that include typically 20 different subjects. These measurements have goals attached to them and a weighted score based on importance. The specific goals are based on what is critical within each operation to ensure ongoing success.

Green operations are a major focal point of today’s business, what is Aspen doing to run a green operation?
We became involved in the Green initiative early on. I believe wholeheartedly in the purpose and the positive impact our logistics operations can make. We have completed lighting retrofits in our warehouses. We have also invested in new clean fuel tractors installed with engine shut down equipment along with implementing a no-idle rule in all of our facilities. We have an internal team of associates that review Green strategies and implement into the operations. I am involved in various committees that organize and review initiatives and discuss ideas and challenges which I am able to bring into our operations.

What do you like best about working for Aspen?
Aspen has always valued their employees and customers. It’s not just a statement but is practiced day in and out. It is common that as companies grow and expand into multiple operations that they often lose that sense of regard with employees. Aspen never has and is able to maintain quality employees because it is a quality organization.

What do you like best about your position?
This industry does not slow down. Ongoing enhancements in technology, the variety of customers and service requirements, continuous improvement opportunities…the list goes on and on of things that keep my position exciting. Never a dull moment! Also, there is such a satisfaction in seeing the positive results that come from having a great team that is dedicated, hard working and takes such pride in their jobs.
